We have enrichment classes for kids grades K-12. All classes are a la carte. Age ranges are flexible, so feel free to reach out if you think your child would be a good fit for a certain class.
K-2nd
Art (Monday & Wednesday)
Young artists are invited to come imagine new concepts, explore various mediums, and to create original works of art! We will learn about a different artist and medium to create a new work of art each week.
Spanish (Monday)
Spanish for the K-2nd and 3rd-5th grade classes will be taught through monthly
themes that will include greetings, foods, clothing, body parts, animals, weather,
holidays, and more! This class relies heavily on Comprehensible Input (CI), which allows students to stay in the target language. Students will participate in a variety of activities in each class. CI utilizes stories, songs, TPR (total physical response), TPRS (teaching proficiency through reading and storytelling), games, movement, drawing, and more. Spanish class is meant to be a fun, positive experience, for even the youngest amigos! No Spanish experience is necessary.
Fiber Arts (Monday)
In this handwork class, students will learn many foundational skills for various fiber arts. Students will have the opportunity to learn hand sewing, knitting, and crochet. We dive deep into each area so students can learn perseverance through each project and joy when a project is completed. Handwork encourages students to cross the midline of their bodies and visualize the steps to complete a project. This strengthens neural pathways, reinforces math skills, and provides opportunities for light meditation or an “out breath” in the school day. Students are encouraged to use their own creativity, while we all might make the same project, each student’s work will be different from their neighbor’s.
Animal Science (Monday)
Animal Science students will embark on an exciting exploration of the animal kingdom. From lions to ladybugs, students will learn about a wide array of creatures, their habitats, behaviors, and unique adaptations. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and engaging discussions, young zoologists will discover the diversity of life on Earth and develop a deeper appreciation for the wonders of the natural world. With fun games, animal-themed crafts, and even visits from real live animals, this class promises to ignite curiosity and inspire a lifelong love of animals and nature in our budding biologists!
American History (Monday)
Elementary American History students will learn about the rich tapestry of America’s past starting with the earliest peoples to inhabit the area. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students will develop a foundational understanding of American history, including topics such as colonization, the American Revolution, westward expansion, the Civil War, and more. We will also plan field trips to many historical sites around Tennessee to expand student learning and engagement.
Creativity Club (Monday)
Creativity Club intertwines science, art, play, collaboration, and team building. Students will get to exercise their creativity, imagination and work on social skills/team building/collaboration in the process. Students will experience imaginative play opportunities and different stations set up where they get dedicated time to be creative and make things that stretch their imaginations. Creativity Club is a time to play, tinker, make, and do, which fosters imagination, develops creativity, exercises innovative thinking skills, and builds social skills.... This is a club where art, science, and play collide.
Math Fun (Monday & Wednesday)
This course will help your students discover the magic of Math. Students will get the opportunity to see how math works with our bodies, learn tricks to escape mazes, and become masters of geometry. They will also learn about the mathematical uses in art, and get to experiment with uses of cryptography and game theory.
Sports Sampler (Monday)
Got a kid that needs to move? Our sports sampler class is a fun introduction to a multitude of sports including soccer, baseball, and basketball. Each unit will include an introduction to the basic rules of the game and an opportunity to PLAY! This class will take place outside but will move inside in the event of heavy rain or snow.

STEAM/Forensic Science (Monday)
SENHE is proud to be partnering with Mr. Bond & the Science Guys again for another year of science fun! For the first semester, this class will be a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) Club designed to introduce students in the early grades to the basic concepts of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students will be given opportunities to work together in groups and use their creativity to solve problems. Kids will make chemical reactions, play brain games, and more! In semester two, this class will become C.S.I. Nashville as we explore the field of forensic science! Kids will collect clues, identify suspects, and solve crimes. They will perform science experiments with DNA, fingerprinting, fiber analysis, anatomy, and much more.
Theater (Monday)
In this theatrical arts class students will work together to create their own original short play. Students will learn story structure, improv technique, develop characters, build props, and rehearse their play. By the end of the semester they will have engaged their imaginations, developed creative writing skills, built teamwork, and performed a brand new original play!

Nature Adventurers (Monday)
Join us as we explore the wonders of the natural world! In this class, elementary students will engage in hands-on activities, outdoor expeditions, and interactive lessons to explore ecosystems, wildlife, and the environment around them. From observing local flora and fauna to learning about conservation and sustainability practices, Nature Adventurers fosters curiosity, appreciation, and stewardship of nature. Through fun games, nature walks, and creative projects, students will develop a deeper connection to the world around them while cultivating a sense of wonder and respect for the beauty and diversity of our planet. This class will take place mainly outside.
Baton (Monday)
Get ready to twirl, spin, and shine in our baton class! Led by experienced instructors, this class is perfect for young ones eager to learn the art of baton twirling in a fun and supportive environment. Through engaging activities and step-by-step instruction, children will develop coordination, rhythm, and confidence as they master basic twirling techniques and progress to more advanced moves. Our emphasis on teamwork and individual growth ensures that every child feels encouraged and empowered to reach their full potential. Baton students will also have the opportunity to participate in local parades and the Top Edge Baton recital in May.
Group Ukulele (Monday)
Ukulele Sprouts 🌱 introduces all of the fundamentals of playing stringed instruments using the best kids' instrument ever - the ukulele! In Ukulele Sprouts 🌱 we use original songs that were created on the uke to add essential motor skills seamlessly, one by one. We teach by ear which we believe is the most natural way to learn music, so there is no practice book necessary - all you need is your ukulele! We've designed these classes to move quickly from one exercise to the next; students remain engaged while building skills, and we have them playing multiple chords and songs in a matter of weeks. This class is an effortless way to become musically fluent in a short amount of time, and your student will be able to continue on ukulele and/or move over to guitar, fiddle, or bass or banjo with ease.
LEGO Connect (Wednesday)
Welcome to LEGO Connect! This dynamic and innovative class, designed for kids from K-2, focuses on fostering collaboration, creativity, and communication by engaging children in directed social activities. Each week we will engage in group LEGO games and LEGO group building projects and presentations. Through these fun activities, students will develop crucial social skills that will help them communicate, share ideas, and cooperate with others. Socialization and group dynamics are difficult to achieve in a traditional home school setting, which is why we created LEGO Connect. While learning about our world, ourselves, and the people around us, we'll foster productive, empathetic, and confident little humans.
Empathy in Action - Building Social Skills (Wednesday)
Social emotional learning (SEL) is the ability to create and sustain meaningful relationships with others by having the ability to express, recognize, and manage one’s own emotions, as well as responding appropriately to others’ emotions. SEL helps build self-confidence, empathy, the ability to develop meaningful and lasting relationships, and a sense of importance and value to those around him/her. This course will teach students how to recognize, name, and positively navigate their emotions; set achievable goals; feel and show empathy toward others; and establish and maintain positive relationships with others.

In this class, students will learn the basics of the elements of music - rhythm, melody, dynamics, and early music theory - through a multi-sensory approach. We will dance, sing, craft, play rhythm instruments, and gain an appreciation for various musical styles from around the world while we play with these elements in a fun but structured manner.
Fencing (Wednesday)
En garde! Fencing class gives students a chance to learn the art of swordplay in a safe and engaging environment. Led by experienced instructors, this class will introduce participants to the fundamentals of footwork, blade work, and strategy in both individual and team settings. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience, our program is designed to accommodate all skill levels and ages. Through drills, sparring sessions, and structured lessons, students will develop agility, coordination, and mental acuity while honing their fencing techniques. Join us and embark on an exciting journey into the world of fencing, where discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie flourish!
Chess Club (Wednesday)
The classic thinking person's game, taught to all skill levels. Students would learn openings, traps, and strategies while growing in a variety of skills, including visualization, critical thinking, good sportsmanship, and problem solving.
Wilderness Survival (Wednesday)
Designed for the kids who love being outside! This is an outdoor and hands-on based approach to learning a broad range of skills to navigate the outdoors in emergent and non-emergent situations. This class will lay a foundation of survival skills including building a fire, using a compass, water filtration, and medical care.
Writer's Workshop (Wednesday)
Welcome to the Writers' Workshop, where K-2 students embark on a magical journey through the world of storytelling and creative expression! In this dynamic class, students will explore various forms of writing, including crafting short stories as a group and work on finding their voices under the supervision of a gentle and experienced teacher. With a literature element woven throughout the curriculum, students will be inspired by captivating stories and writing prompts to ignite their imaginations. As a former Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher with expertise in working with new and reluctant writers, our teacher will guide students through engaging activities and experiential learning experiences that cater to their interests and curiosity. Together, we'll discover the joy of writing, nurture creativity, and cultivate a love for storytelling in a supportive and age-appropriate environment. World Geography & Cultures (Wednesday)
Explore the wonders of our diverse world in this interactive geography and cultures class! Through hands-on activities, games, and creative art projects, students will embark on a global journey, discovering different countries, traditions, and customs. From crafting aboriginal dot art, learning about what it’s like to grow up in other parts of the world, to tasting delicious snacks from various regions, this class aims to spark curiosity and broaden cultural awareness in a fun and engaging way.
Human Body Science (Wednesday)
Explore the amazing human body! This hands-on class will introduce students to the human body's fascinating anatomy and physiology. Covering the body's various systems (circulatory, musculoskeletal, cardiac, etc), students will learn how their body works. Each class period culminates in an experiment or activity that relates to that system.
NOTE: This class will not cover the human reproductive system. At this age, we encourage parents to have age appropriate conversations about this at home.
Book Club (Wednesday)
Our early elementary book club students will enjoy reading a new picture book each week and discussing some literary elements. The class will complete a fun activity paired with the book each week. This is a great way to encourage a love of reading and discussing favorite books with friends!
3rd-5th

This hands-on class teaches artistic technique as well as self expression, creativity, and focus while utilizing numerous mediums. Materials and mediums include; drawing, sculpture, collage, painting, clay and crafts.

through 5th students are encouraged to challenge themselves, while still being provided plenty of support. This segment of years delves into the how; how does something go from raw materials to a useful or decorative object. Crochet continues to build onto and reinforce math skills, while spinning and weaving force students to slow their bodies and keep their focus on the yarn they are building and using. Embroidery begins our dive into color design, and how the use of colors can alter visual representation of objects. Students are encouraged to use their own creativity, while we all might have the same instructions, each student’s work will be different from their neighbor’s.

All equipment is provided.
Group Guitar (Monday)
Nashville Guitar Academy is offering their group classes for homeschool kids. Their classes have a fast paced, song based, interactive approach to learning guitar. With their "Guitar is a Team Sport" mindset, they are the antithesis of the old music store approach! Beginner guitar students are typically new to guitar or have taken a few lessons. Students who join a class for the first time may need a few individual lessons with the instructor prior to class starting.
Baking/Cake & Cookie Decorating (Monday)
Let’s Bake! Bring on the bakers and let’s make something delicious! This intro class will teach some baking basics including overall safety, how to use equipment, successful and accurate measurement, and more. We’ll work through the rules of baking, learn some tips and tricks, and make and decorate our own individual cookies to round out the semester. Students will not only explore their creativity, but learn skills to expand on their overall baking knowledge.

Welcome to the LEGO Stop Motion Animation class, where creativity and imagination come to life one frame at a time! In this class, elementary students will embark on an exciting journey into the world of animation using everyone's favorite building blocks: LEGO. Through hands-on instruction and guided projects, students will learn the fundamentals of stop motion animation, including storyboarding, character design, set construction, and frame-by-frame filming techniques. Whether aspiring filmmakers or LEGO enthusiasts, this class provides a fun and engaging platform for students to explore their artistic talents, develop technical skills, and unleash their creativity in the magical realm of animation.
Thriving Through Connections: A Social Emotional Learning Course (Wednesday)

Music (Wednesday)
Learn basic music theory and expression in a fun way in our class for upper elementary. Units will cover beginning choral singing and recorder. Kids will learn how to play as a group and will perform a short concert for families at the end of the semester.
Woodworking (Wednesday)
Students will begin with the use of hand tools and learning the basics of measuring, fastening, and
sawing as they create and assemble through our project-based curriculum. They will progress to the use of light power tools, learning to read and create plans for their work, and learning when accuracy matters. In learning to read plans, we focus on how to realize a two-dimensional drawing into a three-dimensional object while incorporating lessons in applied geometry. While part of our goal is to teach students the mechanics of how to create with wood as a primary material, this is really a vehicle for building self-confidence, patience, perseverance, and understanding that making mistakes is part of the learning process.
Invention Convention (Wednesday)
4th and 5th grade students are invited to join our Inventor's Workshop.
The students will walk through the invention process with our guide and develop their own invention to showcase at the Tennessee Invention Convention at MTSU in February. Students can work alone or in teams of up to 3 classmates. Parents may need to assist students with working on their invention some at home as well.

Through engaging lessons, interactive activities, and hands-on practice, students will learn the fundamentals of ASL, including vocabulary, grammar, and basic conversation skills. From fingerspelling to expressing emotions and concepts through sign, students will develop the ability to communicate effectively using this beautiful and expressive language. With a focus on cultural sensitivity and appreciation, students will also gain insight into the Deaf community and learn about the history, traditions, and contributions of Deaf individuals.

American Kids Book Club (Wednesday)
Learn American history through living books! The American Kids Book Club is a literary adventure where American history and crafts come together to provide kids with a fun, interactive learning experience where we read books about kids living throughout various points of American history! Supplemented by books from the American Girl series, we will read stories that help to tell the story of how our country was put together. As we focus on each story, we get a chance to sample foods from that kids’ culture or era, discuss events that were going on in the world around them and then learn more about their culture by creating a craft project that incorporates what we have learned. We’ll be learning about history and cultures and most definitely having fun!
Sewing (Wednesday)
Learn the basics of sewing from an experienced seamstress and veteran homeschool mom! Students will provide their own sewing machines and will learn how to operate them and care for them. Each class will include a new sewing project such as pot holders, pajama pants, pillows, scrunchies, etc... Intended for grades 3 and up.
Robotics (Wednesday)
LEGO Robotics students will explore the world of engineering and programming through hands-on exploration with LEGO bricks and robotics kits. In this class, students will learn to design, build, and program their own robots using LEGO. From building robots that navigate mazes to completing tasks and challenges, students will gain a foundational understanding of robotics principles while having fun and fostering a passion for STEM learning. Join us as we combine creativity and technology to bring LEGO creations to life in this dynamic and interactive class!
Musical Theater - FULL SHOW (Wednesday)
Join us for a full musical theater show! Each semester will be filled with learning scripts, music, choreography, blocking, costume and set creation and will end with a full performance. Students in 3rd-8th grade are eligible to participate. Everyone who signs up will be in the show! Auditions for roles will be held before classes start, the exact audition date will be emailed to you over the summer. Weekly rehearsal is a 2 hour block and students must be present weekly. There will be additional rehearsals called the week of the show as well. Stay tuned for the announcements of which show we are doing!

Although learning a foreign language at times is challenging, it can and should be
fun! This class relies heavily on Comprehensible Input (CI), which allows students to stay in the target language during class. Students will participate in a variety of activities. CI utilizes stories, songs, TPR (total physical response), TPRS (teaching proficiency through reading and storytelling), games, movement, drawing and more. This class will explore a variety of vocabulary and visit some amazing
Spanish speaking countries. Grammar will be interwoven into each lesson,
allowing students to learn it more naturally. Students will be speaking and
understanding Spanish from day one! For students to be successful, a positive
learning environment will be fostered where all students feel encouraged to explore and communicate in the target language. No Spanish experience is necessary. This class is offered at a middle school level and a high school level. High school students and 8th graders will have the opportunity to complete assignments at home to meet the graduation requirements for 1 foreign language credit.
Intermediate Group Guitar
Nashville Guitar Academy is offering their group classes for homeschool kids. Their classes have a fast paced, song based, interactive approach to learning guitar. With their "Guitar is a Team Sport" mindset, they are the antithesis of the old music store approach! Intermediate guitar students typically have been taking guitar for several years and are in middle-high school. Students who join a class for the first time may need a few individual lessons with the instructor prior to class starting.
Intro to Role Playing Clubs - D&D (Monday)

Let’s work together to capture great memories and put them into print! In this class we will be creating the Southeast Nashville Homeschool Enrichment yearbook as a team.
Students will be involved in every aspect of the process and get to experience the many roles required to bring a printed project to life. As we learn how to photograph events, get hands-on experience with project management and acquire basic graphic design skills in preparing the yearbook for print, everyone will have the opportunity to hone their talents and discover new ones along the way.

Students will need basic computer skills (open documents, cut and paste, etc). They will also need access to a digital camera and computer, preferably a laptop they can bring to class. Cell phone cameras are fine. We will be dividing up the program’s major events and documentation of classes amongst yearbook students. All participants should be prepared to commit to some work outside of our class time. This class is designed for students in grades 8th -12th. 7th graders who have previously taken photography or digital arts may also be considered.
Improv (Monday)
Middle and high school students will embark on an exhilarating journey into the world of improvisational theater. In this class, students will unleash their creativity, spontaneity, and teamwork through a series of engaging exercises, games, and performances. From improvising scenes and characters to developing quick wit and improvisational skills, students will hone their ability to think on their feet and adapt to any situation. Fiber Arts (Monday)
In this handwork class, students will have the opportunity to learn embroidery, cross
stitch/needlepoint, dyeing fibers, knitting in the round, hand sewing, and sewing 3 dimensional objects. In 6th through 12th, students are provided instruction and frameworks, while being allowed to fully express and experiment within that frame. This age group are allotted a year end capstone project to further dive into their chosen niche. Capstone proposal boards will be shown at the Winter Showcase, capstone projects will be shown at the Spring Showcase. Students are encouraged to embrace their individuality through their creativity.
Middle School American History (Monday) - 6-8th
Exploring the history of the United States from its founding through today, this course will expose students to the history of America’s native peoples, the American Revolution and beyond. Through class activities and individual assignments, students will examine major changes brought about by progressive reforms and will consider how these events
impacted the expansion of the United States. The course content will encourage students to think carefully about the challenges and opportunities facing the United States in the21st century.
Fun Fitness (Monday)
Welcome to Fun Fitness, where middle and high school students engage in a dynamic blend of physical activities to promote health, teamwork, and enjoyment of sports. This class offers a diverse range of activities, including field day and team-building games to foster cooperation and camaraderie, fitness workouts to improve strength and endurance, and cross country and running sessions to enhance cardiovascular fitness and resilience. Students also have the opportunity to develop their skills in soccer, baseball, and kickball through drills, scrimmages, and friendly competitions. Fun Fitness provides an energetic and inclusive environment where students can unleash their athleticism, build confidence, and have fun while staying active.
STEAM (Monday)
STEAM class will be a hands-on experience. Each week students will be presented with materials and design challenges that incorporate different aspects of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Students will be encouraged to think critically and creatively about how to design and improve their projects. If you have a student who loves being creative, hot glue, and cardboard, this could be the class for you!
High School American History (Monday) - 8-12th
In this high school level course, students will investigate the people, places, ideas, and events that shaped the United States from its founding through today. Students will be asked to analyze and evaluate decisions made by leaders in the military, business, and political realms.
Through several individual research projects, primary and secondary source analysis, and small/large group activities, students will have the ability to apply what they have learned to current, real world problems. This course is designed to meet the Tennessee standards for 1 high school credit toward graduation. 8th graders who would like to earn high school credit may take this class as well.
Studio Art (Monday)
This hands-on class teaches artistic technique as well as self expression, creativity, and focus while utilizing numerous mediums. Materials and mediums include; drawing, sculpture, collage, painting, clay and crafts.
Cooking (Monday)
Learn the basics of culinary arts in this course. We’ll cover how to measure, read and follow recipes, safety and sanitation, and knife skills. We’ll investigate where the nutrition is in food and how our body uses it. Food labs and demonstrations will focus on: quick breads, pasta, rice, ancient grains, salads, vegetables, eggs, milk, and cookies. A final meal using learned material will also be prepared.
Costume & Prop Design (Monday)
Students will learn the basics of theatrical costume design through interpretation of an age-appropriate short play and characters, researching what people wore in different historic eras, communicating ideas through sketching and idea boards and finally creating theatrical costumes and props.
Included will be:
• The design process and collaborative process in the theater
• Reading a script for practical costume considerations and inspiration
• Analyzing characters particular personalities, realities and relationships in the play
• An overview of costume history

Wilderness Survival (Wednesday)
Designed for the kids who love being outside! This is an outdoor and hands-on based approach to learning a broad range of skills to navigate the outdoors in emergent and non-emergent situations. This class will lay a foundation of survival skills including building a fire, using a compass, water filtration, and medical care.
High School Civics & Personal Finance (Monday) - 8-12th
Civics and Finance are essential. Those who understand money and society rule themselves and rule the world. Those who don't... are ruled by systems without even knowing it. In this class we will investigate the philosophical underpinnings of politics and society and learn to understand how the modern global financial system functions. Students will explore the principles of democracy, government structures, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens in society. Simultaneously, they will delve into essential personal finance topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, credit, and understanding economic systems. Through interactive lessons, real-world case studies, and practical exercises, students will develop the critical thinking skills and knowledge necessary to navigate both the civic and financial landscapes effectively. Empowering students to become informed and engaged citizens while equipping them with the tools to make sound financial decisions, Civics and Personal Finance prepares them for success in their personal and civic lives beyond the classroom. Critical Thinking/Media Literacy (Wednesday) - 7th-12th
This could be the most important class your student ever takes! This course will be an introduction to critical thinking skills. We will investigate and understand the differences amongst the following: fact, interpretation, evidence, perspective, opinion, bias, belief, prejudice, story, worldview, crowdsourcing, and expert consensus. We will learn the processes of critical thinking: analysis, interpretation, inference, explanation, self-regulation, open-mindedness, and problem-solving. We will practice thinking critically about real-world scenarios and current events. We will embark on a critical exploration of today's media landscape. In an age inundated with information, understanding how to navigate and analyze media content is essential. Through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and hands-on projects, students will learn to decode media messages, recognize bias, evaluate sources for credibility, and understand the impact of media on society and individual perspectives. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) (Wednesday) - 6-9th
Social emotional learning (SEL) is the ability to create and sustain meaningful relationships with others by having the ability to express, recognize, and manage one’s own emotions, as well as responding appropriately to others’ emotions. SEL helps build self-confidence, empathy, the ability to develop meaningful and lasting relationships, and a sense of importance and value to those around him/her. This course will teach students how to recognize, name, and positively navigate their emotions; set achievable goals; feel and show empathy toward others; and establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
Yoga (Wednesday)
In this yoga class geared toward the unique needs of middle & high schoolers, students will learn, not only balance, strength, and flexibility but also mind-body connection, self-awareness, and how to build a practice of self-care in a way that is enjoyable and long-lasting. Classes include yoga-based games, challenges, breathing exercises, meditations, and activities designed to promote a strong sense of community. A yoga mat will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own if they prefer.
Creative Illustration (Wednesday)
Students will enjoy several creative writing mediums including poetry, short stories, folklore, and songwriting as they simultaneously illustrate their creations utilizing drawing, ink, and watercolor paint. Student work will be compiled in a bound book that they will create.
Woodworking (Wednesday)
Students will begin with the use of hand tools and learning the basics of measuring, fastening, and sawing as they create and assemble through our project-based curriculum. They will progress to the use of light power tools, learning to read and create plans for their work, and learning when accuracy matters. In learning to read plans, we focus on how to realize a two-dimensional drawing into a three-dimensional object while incorporating lessons in applied geometry. While part of our goal is to teach students the mechanics of how to create with wood as a primary material, this is really a vehicle for building self-confidence, patience, perseverance, and understanding that making mistakes is part of the learning process.
American Sign Language - ASL (Wednesday)
In ASL, students will embark on an enriching journey into the world of visual communication and Deaf culture. Through engaging lessons, interactive activities, and hands-on practice, students will learn the fundamentals of ASL, including vocabulary, grammar, and basic conversation skills. From fingerspelling to expressing emotions and concepts through sign, students will develop the ability to communicate effectively using this beautiful and expressive language. With a focus on cultural sensitivity and appreciation, students will also gain insight into the Deaf community and learn about the history, traditions, and contributions of Deaf individuals.
Middle School Writing (Wednesday) - 6-8th
Writing is an act of imagination; it builds from the raw materials of life experiences and language. In this class we will awaken our imaginations, read excerpts of good writing, and learn how to use literary devices. We will explore genre, plot, character development, narrative voice, point of view, world-building, and story-telling techniques. Students will learn strategies for generating ideas, and will practice responding creatively to writing prompts each week. We will also cover important writing skills for middle school such as note taking, summary, and persuasive writing. Students will receive teacher and peer feedback throughout the editing process. Whether you have a reluctant writer or a future novelist on your hands, they will grow as a reader and a writer through this course!
Chess Club (Wednesday)
The classic thinking person's game, taught to all skill levels. Students would learn openings, traps, and strategies while growing in a variety of skills, including visualization, critical thinking, good sportsmanship, and problem solving.
Mock Trial (Wednesday) - 9-12th
In Mock Trial, students will learn how to understand, plan, and lead a trial in an actual courtroom as either attorneys or witnesses in cases written by the Tennessee Bar Association. Students will learn how to make opening and closing statements, write direct and cross-examinations, how to utilize rules of evidence, and how to act in character as a witness from an official affidavit. Members of this class should be prepared to be available for the Davidson County competition (usually the last Friday and Saturday in February), the State competition on the last Friday and Saturday in March, and the same in April. This is a high school only class. Students must be in grades 9-12 to participate.

LEGO Robotics students will explore the world of engineering and programming through hands-on exploration with LEGO bricks and robotics kits. In this class, students will learn to design, build, and program their own robots using LEGO. From building robots that navigate mazes to completing tasks and challenges, students will gain a foundational understanding of robotics principles while having fun and fostering a passion for STEM learning. Join us as we combine creativity and technology to bring LEGO creations to life in this dynamic and interactive class!
High School Biology (Wednesday) - 8-12th
This course will give students a general introduction to a range of topics including basic biological concepts, the chemistry of life, structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, DNA and gene expression, cellular replication (mitosis and meiosis), cellular respiration, photosynthesis, and modern applications of biotechnology. This class will meet the Tennessee high school graduation requirement for biology with a lab. This course is designed to meet the Tennessee standards for 1 high school credit toward graduation. 8th graders who would like to earn high school credit may take this class as well.
Film Production (Wednesday)
​Students will be introduced to video production & cinematography, while creating short professional video projects. Projects include but are not limited to commercials, music videos, PSA’s and film. They complete all phases of the production process including planning, capturing, and editing. Students will receive a better understanding of video and film industry careers and techniques, while participating in project-based learning. Any digital camera, including iPhones and iPads, can be used to fulfill the class assignments.
